Frequently asked questions

It all began with a simple idea fueled by a deep passion. As a small business, we pride ourselves on personal attention and dedication to every detail. Our approach is rooted in quality and integrity, ensuring that everything we do reflects our commitment to excellence.

Where do you get your wood?

I get my wood from different sources.  The wood that I make the cutting boards and lazy susans are from a local Amish cabinent maker.  I use his scraps.  I also get rounds and live edge wood and make small tables.

I source my reclaimed wood from local farms and outbuildings. It is not unusual for me to see a building coming down or setting off a road in disrepair and finding out who owns the building and my asking to use the wood.  Most of my wood tells a story and that is included when receiving your peice.

How long does it take you to make a peice

It depends on what I am creating.  If I have wood in stock, of course the project goes faster.   If you are looking for something specific it may take a while to find. I want to ensure your piece is exactly right for you.

Is all your wood reclaimed?

No, the wood that is used to make the French Pastry Pins is bought.  I do however ensure it is not on the endangered list and is sustainable wood.  There is a wide variety of exotic wood and if you want something special, I can find wood and have the pin turned to your specifications.

Where do you get the hardware for your items

I get the hardwood from various sources.  I scour old buildings, antique stores, thrift stores ....  I do buy a limited number of new hardware  from crafting stores occasionally. I do buy antique railroad nails from a source who will personalize them for me.

What other services do you offer

Occasionally I will refinish furniture.  If you have something that needs spruced up we can meet and discuss options.

I also create plant hangers using old items found around the farm or at auctions ... such as horse harnesses and ...... .

I also hand make watercolored cards, gift tags etc.

I will be making my own line of seasoning and dry marinades this coming Spring.

Tell us a little about your garden

Working with a partner, we provide versatile and fresh produce to our local customers.  We provide fruits such as plums, berries, apples, tomatoes ... we grow a wide variety of vegetables including lettuce and greens, eggplant, about 10 varietys of peppers and herbs to name a few.  We also grow beautiful flowers that are native to Zone 5.  There is a main focus on plants and flowers  that will attract bees and butterflies.   Variety depends on the time of year and just how the weather is unfolding.

We go to various farmer's markets and craft fairs.  You will find us downtown Ada on Monday afternoons in early Spring and there on Saturdays when the weather turns. Note that at the Ada market in the Kinfolk Building we have been approved to accept SNAP and EBT as a payment source.

CSA Subscription

We offer a CSA subscription for $40 each delivery.  Your box will contain current fruits, vegetables, herbs and canned items.  Delivery is free within Ada City Limits and we can deliver further out for a nominal fee.  This service starts around Easter.  You are welcome to inquire what is ready for harvest.  We are both Cottage Food Certified and Carla is a member of "Minnesota Grown".  This ensures that 90% of what is offered is grown right here in MN.

Tell us about your canned items

Board Girl Studio puts up approximately 500 jars a season.  I'm always looking to add new things each year. I'm open to custom making something you don't see.  80% of my produce and fruits are grown by me or my partner; what is bought is done from Amish or farms that do not use pesticides.

We pride ourselves on our adaptability and commitment to excellence in every aspect of our service.
